Mom Review: JBL JR300BT Kids Wireless headphones

As you all know by now, our daughters are enrolled on Virtual Schooling. And like any other schooling, we might be spared from transport, uniforms, and other school expenses but in general, there’s other items normal children don’t require that our needed. One of them are headphones.

Attending different classes at the same time but on the same room, using headphones is a necessity for them to understand listen to their teachers clearly without compromising the other.

We chose to get them the JBL JR300BT as we already own different JBL headphone and speakers over the years and have tried and tested its quality. Budget wise, we find it reasonably priced.

Imagine our dismay when yesterday, our eldest’s headphones won’t open nor charge despite just being used as normal the day before. For a headphone only used for a maximum of 5-6 hrs a day for less than a year, I was so upset. I tried looking online for what could have went wrong but with only two (2) buttons to play with to make it work again, I was only left with an option I saw online which requires me to open it up.

Luckily I got to my senses quickly and discard that though since I can’t find the smallest screwdriver we have that could is needed to open the headphones. I resort into checking our Lazada app where we bought it around mid-year last year. Luckily we got it with 1-year warranty. Having bought it on the 6th of June last year, I’m just grateful its still under warranty. I quickly messaged the JBL, the seller online.

Communication was swiftly done as they are quick to reply and gave immediately the details confirming that our item is still under warranty and gave the address and opening hours of their service center. I was delighted to know that the service center isn’t that far from our home either.

Arriving at their service center the next day, I was quickly assisted by this kind lady. She only asked me what is wrong and did a little diagnostic test on the headphones herself. I was asked to fill-up a form online (on an ipad) and as before I was finished, she’s already ready with a new set for me.

new headphones!😊

I happily came back with a new headphones for our daughter and not needing to buy new ones.

Here are the other reasons why we chose JBL JR300BT for our kids:

JBL Safe Sound. With the right amount of decibels, which is lower than 85dB, it gives us peace of mind that our kids ears are taken good care of despite using their headphones daily for 4-6 hrs a day.

photo from website

Wireless. Gone ar the days where we needed to furiously untangle headphone wires everyday. We don’t want to go through that hassle with our daughters. Another thing is potentially forgetting they are wearing their headsets (connected to their laptops) and suddenly needed to go somewhere else.

Battery Life. As mentioned, the headphones were bought for daily usage as both our daughters attend virtual schooling. With up-to 12 hrs of battery life, we don’t need to worry that their headphones battery would die-off while they are in the middle of a class.

Easy controls. The headphones only have two buttons on it. One to open it and another to connect to bluetooth, just perfect for kids to easily operate.

Fits Comfortably. Like any headphones of JBL, the fit of this is greatly made. Not only is it comfortable but compact as well. This has been well tested when we travelled to Europe just weeks ago. As the kids attend their virtual school while we’re on the train, it sure is easy to put back and pack as we continue for our next destination.

Designed for kids. JBL JR300BT has 3 colours to choose from Pink, Blue, and Teal which kids would enjoy. Our eldest got the blue while our youngest got the pink one.

Stickers. If you asked our daughters what they love the most of their headphones, they’ll surely answer without a blink….the stickers! True enough, their headphones has been well personalised in less than 5 minutes of us giving it to them.

Stickers included (kids raves about this)

The verdict:

Without a doubt a very happy customer based on the performance of their customer service. Having items changed for a new set is made, fuzz free. Even communication with JBL through Lazada app has been swiftly made and for any customer, we surely would give a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for their great work.

As for the of JBL headphones though, I want to be honest that to say that I was quite dismayed by its performance. Having loved their other headphones and speakers which we have been using for the past few years already, I hope this is a one time thing only and just so happened to be the 🤞🏼lucky ones to get the one with a factory defect. Purchasing something and finding it not working without even a year from buying it makes you want to think of the real quality of it. It’s a great thing that this has happened while it’s still under warranty. A few weeks away from its warranty wearing off. As much as I would like to contemplate with all my WHAT IFs, let’s just focus on the good side.😁 Headphones has been replaced!

Easy ways to Step up your Daily Habits

We all have heard of eating healthy, keeping hydrated, exercising, and getting enough sleep if you are gearing towards living a healthy lifestyle, or what we love saying, living with the right habits.

By all means, those are all great and if done, will help you tremendously. If, and only if, you would want to go a step further though, there’s still tons of ways you can add to that! Take note that like all the other habits, these doesn’t necessarily need you to do much nor spend tons of money. What it needs is you doing it on a daily basis to see some effect.

Here are some next level daily habit ideas you can add to your daily ones:

DRY SKIN BRUSHING

Our skin is the largest organ in our body, sometimes referred to as the third kidney, therefore, it is vital for our skin to do detoxification as well. Skin brushing is one way to do it. I just checked on Shopee for less than SGD 10.

Here’s how to skin brush:

  • Skin brush with a dry brush before you shower or bathe.
  • Always brush towards your heart, with the flow of the lymphatic fluid.
  • Begin at the soles of your feet, then move up your legs, brushing in circular motions.
  • Brush your chest and shoulders towards your heart in long strokes, then start at the fingertips and brush towards your body. Use small, circular strokes in your armpits.
  • It is suggested you move in a circular motion counterclockwise on your stomach to respect the direction of digestion and encourage detoxification.
  • Follow with a shower or bath using an all-natural soap.

TONGUE SCRAPING

I’ve been personally doing this for the past 3 weeks and though I haven’t seen real evidence on how it had helped with my digestion and liver, I am always left in awe on how disgustingly dirty my tongue is every time I scrape it. I might confess that it has been slowly turning into an addiction actually scraping my tongue.

So what are the benefits of doing this, you might ask? Tongue scraping every morning allows you to remove bacteria that can lead to poor digestion and liver stagnation.

I suggest tongue scraping before brushing your teeth. We got ours from Shopee as we needed new toothbrushes. I was quite skeptical on getting one so this toothbrush with a tongue scraper at the other end was a great way to try it out.

Doing it isn’t as complicated as you think. Simply use Use a tongue scraper or even a spoon, if you don’t have one, and reach as far back as possible, and pull forward, scraping off the white film, which is what you call the candida and streptococcus mutans.

EPSOM SALT BATHS

Salt bath has been one of the most used one from this list. There’s different salt baths sold nowadays as part of Self-Care kits. Soaking for 20 minutes in an Epsom salt bath is of the most wonderful way to detoxify the body and relax the soul.

Try making one yourself if you are not keen to buying one. I’m sure you can find almost all of the ingredients available in your kitchen.

Here’s an easy recipe to make one:

Use that while in a warm bath and enjoy a nice cup of tea afterwards…Ahhh..I’m feeling relaxed already just writing this.haha

REBOUNDING

Okay, let’s not complicate this too much. It’s basically a trampoline. This has been proven to be effective for lymphatic drainage. It is suggested to do rebounding for 15 minutes per day. Who would have thought, right?!

Anyways, I’ve been living in Singapore for more than a decade already and it’s very clear that we can’t have those backyard trampoline we see the Westerners can have due to space constraints. Well, no excuses here! Decathlon have these Fitness Trampoline fit for a single person with a front bar (I think for safety purposes) for S$120 while a Cardio Fitness Trampoline (without front bar) costs S$ 50. Great options so there won’t be any excuses to do Self-Care!

SWEATING

Not sure if this should still be included on the list but let’s just add it anyway. Committing to do at least 15 minutes of exercise a day just breaking a sweat can make a big difference already. Sweat releases toxins from the body, and regular exercise helps get the blood moving. This is essential for our body to have a healthy metabolism.

There’s a lot of ways to do exercising without exerting much effort. You can try brisk walking, jogging, rebounding, or cycling. Try going into YouTube and you’ll find tons of videos you can follow to break a sweat.

Another method to work up a sweat is by going in a sauna, a steam room, or a hot bath. It is essential to make sure to hydrate after sweating.

OIL PULLING

I first heard of oil pulling when I had the opportunity to interview Hema Dadhwal, an Instagram Influencer and Holistic Lifestyle Guru in one of my episodes of Women’s Self-Care Series. This has been part of her Self-Care habits. Truly, oil pulling has been one of the common detoxification practice for centuries. Coconut oil are the most commonly used kind of oil in doing this.

Here’s how to do oil pulling:

  • Put 1-2 tablespoons of oil in your mouth
  • Swish the oil for 5-20 minutes
  • Spit the oil in the trash can (to avoid it hardening and clogging up your sink)
  • Rinse your mouth with water and sea salt
  • Brush your teeth

Take Note: Oil pulling should be done on an empty stomach to ensure maximum benefits. The best times to do this are upon waking up or before going to bed.

If you are doing both oil pulling and tongue scraping, it is suggest you start with the oil pulling first.

The Truth about Children

I’ve been so blessed and grateful to watch and see our two daughters grow. I’m also grateful I’ve got the same mindset as my husband who values the guidance children needs rather than compensating lost time through giving material things and the whatnots.

I understand also that this isn’t always the case for many. Others simply doesn’t have any choice. And that’s totally fine. Know that you’re also doing great and doing the best of your ability.

This though is for those who have the choice and well, maybe not realising yet the importance of the guidance they can give to their children.

It’s been a habit of mine to either take a photo or screenshot anything that I encounter in my daily life that makes me pause for a while, think, contemplate, take the lessons from it, and try to apply.

This is a great writing of Dorothy Law Nolte that I can’t even remember where I saw from. Just saw on my phone gallery when I’m trying to clear some photos. I saved it last December 25, 2021 2:52PM. If you know me, I also am into manifestation. So those numbers means something and I knew I needed to share this message to you. So here it is, it’s called Children Learn What They Live.

Children Learn What They Live

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.

If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.

If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive.

If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves.

If children life with ridicule, they learn to feel shy.

If children life with jealousy, they learn to feel envy.

If children life with shame, they learn to feel guilty.

If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.

If children live with tolerance, they learn patience.

If children live with praise, they learn appreciation.

If children live with acceptance, they learn to love.

If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.

If children live with recognition, they learn it is food to have a goal.

If children live with sharing, they learn generosity.

If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness.

If children live with fairness, they learn justice.

If children live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect.

If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and in those about them.

If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live.

If you don’t find this so impactful as a parent, I don’t know already. The message has been written so clearly and understandable, you wouldn’t miss on any. It touched my motherly or should we say parent heart, and I hope yours too. Well, more of, I hope you make sure it affects you in some ways to improve more on your parenting as well.

If also you haven’t got a chance to see my previous blog and you’re into movies, I hope you get to read it too!

When watching movies becomes a great Self-Care

Most of you know me as a Self-Care mom mentor, others as a mom who loves nature trips, well, I know nobody’s asking but just so you know, I or we as a family also love watching movies as a way to relax and bond. The thing with watching movies is most people associate it with being a couch potato, well, not all. Another thing is how you choose the movies you watch. No matter what explanation you give, what you watch can affect you, your mindset, and your mood, so better choose wisely.

I was truly inspired by the last film we watched last Friday night and can’t help not to share it with you. Not because of the story or advertising or whatever but the lesson I got from the movie itself. Plus, just to relate it with Self-Care, these are the movies you should be watching. haha.. Inspiring movies that could make you think of your own life and how to make it better. Being a couch potato doesn’t seem a bad idea if you look at it that way.

Anyways, the movie is called American Underdog. This movie is an inspirational true story of NFL’s 2-time MVP, Kurt Warner. There isn’t a better movie to watch and get inspired if you’re having those days where you think your dreams seems impossible to reach.

I’m not an NFL fan nor do I understand the game itself. Growing up in the Philippines, we’re more into basketball. Anyways, I sure was able to understand the mechanics of Football fast enough so I can cheer along during the movie itself. haha

What I love with this movie is that from the very start, it’s been laid for the audience loud and clear how it felt like a thread going to a needle would it be for anyone who would dream of being a NFL player. For Kurt, he’s young enough to understand the hurdles and wasn’t scared at all to conquer those setbacks and fears despite knowing them. Instead, he worked his way up and did what was supposed to be done.

While doing all the drills and making sure his body was on shape to be on a team and be able to play seems still not be enough for him to get his dream easily, he says this line, “Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, until you can do what you want to do”. And I think a lot of us could resonate with him. Every successful person you see and admire could relate to this and you just need to have patience and wait for your time.

As much as I want to re-tell you the whole story, I don’t think I could give justice on how beautiful the film is and besides, I’m not much of a good storyteller, so….I hope you find time to watch it yourself!

I won’t leave you hanging though…here’s some lines I loved and want to share with you all and hope inspires you and get you motivated as well.

I am a work in progress

If this is your dream, you have to fight for it.

Life is not about what you can achieve, it is what you can become

Character translates anywhere.

Don’t get too comfortable.

And these lines as well to inspire you to be more grateful of your partner-in-life, your hubby as life wouldn’t be as great as it is without a great team.

Winning doesn’t always feel like winning, huh?

It doesn’t mean anything if you don’t have someone to share it with.

We did this, We did this together.

I’m not sure if you felt my emotions while watching this movie with the way I write about this but I’d like to tell you that yes, I cried, and cried a lot. Not because I was sad but because of how proud I am of how he was able to accomplish his dream and inspired not to give up on mine as well.

I’d like to hear from you as well on how you find American Underdog as well. I hope you write them in the comments and let this momma movie buff friendship begin! Lols!

Anyways, if your in the mood for more inspiring movies, I’d greatly recommend these:

Moneyball

We are Marshall

Coach Carter

The Blind Side

The Longest Yard

The Express

42

Trouble with the Curve

When the Game Stands Tall

If you’re wondering why all of them are sports related??? Well, doesn’t a winning game give more excitement to a story? And I love when that happens! haha. I’d also want to share my/our own way of reaching a summit. Hope you get to read this trip of ours!

I hope you all a great Chinese New Year and keep yourselves safe from the Pandemic jolts! More inspiring blogs to come! Lastly, just so you know, I’ve got a workshop coming out called OWN YOUR TIME. This is specifically made for moms who can’t seem to find their rhythm with time. Attending this workshop would surely bring back the confidence in you in tacking your goals as you’ll find you have more time to do more than you can imagine, and take note, doing it happily and not with stress😉 Make sure to REGISTER NOW!

Learning more about how to be a Vegan

When it comes to transitioning your life for the better, you’d be surprised how an eye-opener it is as something as simple as a one word, “VEGAN” can have different meaning and specifications.

In my journey as an advocate for Self-Care in MommyWithAGoal, I’ve met a handful of great women who are vegan. Not a new thing right? While I might not be committing to being one anytime soon, it got me curious.

And guess what, there’s a whole Vegan world apparently! What’s amazing is that what my narrow mind knows about vegan such as someone who’ll only have salad all day, everyday, isn’t that at all. Just the thought of having salad every dinner makes me think twice already. Get me?! That’s how narrow-minded I was.

Let’s start with the misconception of vegan being the same as vegetarian. If this made you frown and read again what you just read just so you could understand clearly what I just said, then clearly, you’re at the same level as I am in knowing these things. haha! Not to worry though, we’ve got the internet to get more info.😆 To save you some research time, here’s the summary:

Vegans avoid consuming:

  • meat
  • poultry
  • fish and shellfish
  • eggs
  • dairy products
  • honey
  • insects
  • rennet, gelatin, and other types of animal protein
  • stock or fats that derive from animals

Vegetarians avoid consuming:

  • meat, such as beef, pork, and game
  • poultry, such as chicken, turkey, and duck
  • fish and shellfish
  • insects
  • rennet, gelatin, and other types of animal protein
  • stock or fats that derive from animal slaughter

However, do consume byproducts such as:

  • eggs
  • dairy products, such as milk, cheese, and yogurt
  • honey

Interesting right?? As simple as that, you’ve already gained more knowledge in a few seconds of reading! haha.. As this article focuses on being vegan, here’s what I found out on my research. There’s different kinds of Vegan! What I love about this is that realising that I can be a vegan too! Read along to know more if you can be too…

Kinds of Vegan

Dietary Vegan – No meat, dairy, or eggs; however, not focused on animal-free clothing or products

Ethical Vegan – No meat, diary, or eggs and avoids animal-based products like leather.

Green Vegan – Similar as an Ethical Vegan, but with a different reason: to reduce carbon footprint.

Raw Vegan – A strictly plant-based diet with food that hasn’t been cooked over 105-115F (40-14C).

Plant-based Vegan – No meat, diary, eggs, or processed foods.

VB6 – A strict vegan diet before 6pm, eats whatever they want (within moderation) after 6pm.

Paris Vegan – Eats vegan daily, but vegetarian when dining out or with friends/family.

Weekday/weekend vegan – Chooses specific days, such as weekdays or weekends, to avoid meat, dairy or eggs.

Virtually Vegan – No meat, and avoids dairy & eggs as much as possible.

Travel Vegan – Eats vegan diet daily, but experiments with local cuisine when traveling.

So there you have it! I hope this gives you a bit to think about your diet and how you consume food in general.

I’d like to end this article with a thought I just happened to have while writing this:

We consume food as it is a necessity, but what we forget to realise is the food our body needs isn’t based on the quantity for our body to function to its capacity but by the quality of food we intake. May this be an eye-opener for you, and me, to make wise food choices as we munch our way to living better and healthy.

Lastly, know that transitioning a lifestyle is a journey. It’s not like how Thanos does in the Marvel movie wherein in a snap, everything will change as you wish it would. It is important to enjoy the journey and have patience while doing it. Take it easy on yourself and until you reach your goal of being a Vegan.

It is also a big help you have a great support group which can guide and motivate you along the way.
